    Freelance - Set Builder - Photo Studio


    Responsible for constructing, painting, maintaining, and removing photography sets using materials and tools determined by the photographic process. Works closely with art direction and photography to theatrical create sets and backgrounds. While performing duties, employees are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; may read and interpret data, information and documents; observe and respond to people and situations; learn and apply new information or skills; work under deadlines; and interact with others encountered in the course of work. The employee works under typical production and/or manufacturing conditions where the noise level can be elevated. 



    • Constructs complex room scenes, sets, furniture and surfaces to client and art direction specifications.
    • Maintains construction material inventories.
    • Levels department workload.
    • Removes sets from photography bays.
    • Recycles usable materials.
    • Transports or arrange transport of sets and materials to storage.
    • With limited guidance, prioritizes and executes responsibilities efficiently; checks own work and the work of others: work results are of the highest quality standards.
    • Decisions have a moderate to advanced scope and impact technical operations of a department or multiple work groups.
    • Completes tasks and resolves problems that require an ability to recognize deviation from accepted practices or quality standards.
    • Assists Merchandise Coordinators in assembling or dismantle of photography samples. Delivery and pick up of merchandise inventory from photograph bays and merchandise room.
    • Assists in delivering merchandise to all responsible parties throughout the photo process based on photo layouts and photo schedules, as well as collect merchandise after photo process is completed.
    • Disassembles and packs merchandise in order to ensure proper delivery to the internal department or vendor.
    • Typically works independently; interacts with management or more senior level professionals on non-typical assignments.
    • Handles decisions regarding issues affecting own work and possibly the work of other team members.
    • Attends meetings as necessary.
    • Completes other assignments as requested to support the business.


    • 2-5 years of experience building sets in a studio environment.
    • Preferred Skills: 
    • Proficient in several of the following skills is a plus: general carpentry, painting, taping, mudding, and wallpapering, 
    • Electrical, plumbing, finished carpentry and/or general home improvement skills.
    • Proficient in working with hand and stationary tools.
    • Ability to unpack assembles, dismantle and repack merchandise.
    • Ability to read and follow complex assembly instructions.
    • Ability to solve problems, multi-task, focus on details, organize. 
    • Follows established procedures and applies general technical standards and concepts; prioritizes requests from multiple sources.
    • Must possess good prioritization and excellent communication skills.
    • Result and safety driven with a sense of urgency.
    • Valid Drivers License and safe driving record.
    • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
